Tendrils Ten with Joyce Frohn

Joyce Frohn’s work appears in Trauma and the Environment, Issue 2

  1. What brings you joy? It could be recent or something you’ve enjoyed for ages.
Joy has been hard to find recently. The way I find it lately, has been my own writing.

  2. What art form would you like to try at least once?
Would love to work in jewelry and pottery again.

  3. When was the first time you thought of yourself as a writer?
I first thought of myself as a writer when I decided to start submitting to places. I've fought with the 'not a real writer' syndrome ever since.

  4. What’s one way you process or manage painful emotions?
I process emotions the way farmers deal with weeds; plow them under and see how they come up in my stories.

  5. What’s a work of art/literature that has influenced you greatly?
I've been inspired both positively and negatively. Some books inspire you to write something better than them. The one that inspired me to be better, by being great, was Shirley Jackson's "Raising Demons".

  6. What’s your favorite tool for writing/making art?
I like pen and paper, but I use a computer because no one but me can read my handwriting.

  7. If you weren’t a writer, what would you be?
I would be a scientist, probably working with slime molds.

  8. If you could instantly master any skill, what would you choose?
Music. I can just read music and wish I could do more.

  9. If your workspace could talk, what would it say about you?
    That I’m a mess.

  10. If you could chat with one writer, living or dead, who would you choose?
C.S. Lewis. I would love to ask if he was planning on having fan writers fill in some of the blanks of his stories.
